Powered by the smooth, refined 3800 ECOTEC V6, the VS delivered 15 per cent more power and even better fuel economy figures. Low friction technology was used extensively in this engine. Its features included a new cylinder block design, lightweight, high-compression pistons, lighter cylinder heads, a new Bosch throttle body and sequential fuel injection. Maximum power increased by 17kW to 147kW at 5,200 rpm, the four-speed electronic transmission was re-engineered, computer power doubled. VS also introduced the driver and passenger airbag combination, an Australian first, and security features were enhanced.
The engineers made a change to the security system, allowing you to select either drivers door or all door unlocking, while a rolling security code system was incorporated to improve vehicle security.
So little was changed on the outside that it is sometimes difficult to identify a VS over a VR – to do so look for the revised Holden emblem, ECOTEC badge located under the indicator lights and silver insert around the edge of the front grille opening.

Hi, I’ve inherited my mother’s 1996 Holden Equipe Commodore Sedan, automatic, it’s in A original condition with only 40,000 Kms, very well kept and maintained car in excellent condition. Because this car is unusual for its age I’m wondering if it should be advertised on a Holden collectors site, would this car be of interest to collectors and roughly what price range would it be? Thank you, Beryl
